Experiencing the Sea Lions and Dolphins of Baird Bay is one of the Eyre Peninsula's most memorable wildlife encounters. This small-group adventure offers the rare opportunity to swim alongside wild marine animals in their natural environment, creating an unforgettable connection with nature.

Your journey begins with a scenic boat cruise across the sheltered waters of Baird Bay to Jones Island, home to a resident colony of Australian Sea Lions, affectionately known as the "puppies of the sea". After anchoring in a protected area, you'll be fitted with snorkelling equipment and guided into the water by our experienced crew.

Curious, playful and incredibly graceful, the Sea Lions often approach swimmers of their own accord, darting, spinning and interacting naturally around the group. It is a magical experience that few wildlife encounters can rival.

We then continue across the bay in search of wild Dolphins. Renowned for their intelligence and inquisitive nature, these remarkable animals frequently choose to approach guests, creating truly memorable encounters in the water.

Importantly, our wildlife experiences are conducted with the utmost respect for the animals and their environment. We do not feed, touch or interfere with the Sea Lions or Dolphins. Instead, we meet them on their terms, in their natural habitat.

Throughout the tour, refreshments are served on board while you relax and take in the spectacular coastal scenery, abundant birdlife and pristine marine environment that make Baird Bay so special.

• Baird Bay is located approximately 30km along a well-maintained all-weather unsealed road.
• Tour duration typically ranges from 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on wildlife activity and conditions on the day.

• Child rates apply to guests aged 17 years and under, including infants.

Summer Tidal Conditions

During the summer months, exceptionally low tides may occasionally require guests to wade through a shallow channel to access the vessel.

• Water depth varies with tidal conditions and may reach around waist level.
• Surfaces can be uneven, soft or slippery in places.
• Guests with mobility considerations or concerns are encouraged to contact us prior to booking so we can discuss suitability and available assistance options.

Wildlife Encounters

As all wildlife is completely wild and free-ranging, every encounter is unique. While we have an excellent success rate, interactions vary from day to day depending on animal behaviour and environmental conditions.
