Baird Bay Marine Safari: Sea Lions, Dolphins & Wild Bay

Step aboard and let Baird Bay unfold before you. This intimate boat tour takes you across one of South Australia's most ecologically rich waterways, offering a front-row seat to wild sea lions, playful dolphins, spectacular birdlife, and the rugged coastal scenery of the Eyre Peninsula, all from the comfort of the boat.

As you head out across the bay, keep your binoculars close. Your guide will point out the remarkable wildlife along the way before you arrive at Jones Island, home to an endangered Australian sea lion colony. These endearing animals (affectionately known as the "puppies of the sea") can be observed playing freely in their natural habitat, moored safely nearby so as not to disturb them. From there, the boat makes its way west across the bay in search of the resident dolphin pod, who have a reputation for turning up with curiosity and plenty of charisma.

Throughout the journey, warm yourself with a hot Milo and a slice of tea cake, served on board while the scenery rolls by.

The tour wraps up back at the lodge between 12:00 and 1:00 pm, where a seasonal lunch made from local Eyre Peninsula produce is waiting for you.

• Tours run for 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on animal activity on the day
• We ask all guests to rug up and bring a warm jacket
• We do not feed or touch the sea lions or dolphins; all encounters are respectful, on their terms
• Baird Bay is accessed via 30 km of unsealed, well-maintained all-weather road
